Splice 2010 Movie Trailers - Movie Trailers

Synopsis :
Splice, new film by Vincenzo Natali, unfolds a little more. In view images of the new trailer, the term “Hard SF (science fiction rather crude and violent) immediately comes to mind regarding this story of two scientists (Brody , and Sarah Polley) who cross the point of no return by mixing human and animal DNA to create a creature hybride.

Critics Splice :
A couple of geneticists manipulate DNA and create strange creatures to collect cells. These manipulations are performed in order to find remedies against diseases. Unable to have the approval of funding to carry out some research, they bypass and gives birth to a humanoid. In parallel to their legal work, they are forced to be in keeping this secret.

Director of the acclaimed CUBE but also failed CYPHER, Vincenzo Natali interested in the impact of science in human relations. If it is known for a work where relations with its neighbor belong to the realm of abstraction (CUBE), he now tackles the most recognizable narrative structures in which these themes are still floating. Indeed, one of the common denominators of these films is to illustrate the oppression of the characters.

Natali’s approach is closer to c and toward that of David Cronenberg, director of THE FLY, where a scientist, after an experiment gone wrong, turns into … fly. Two filmmakers come together in a look more and more analytical about them, they always seem to back but wanted to stay closer to the people on stage. However, the director of SPLICE managed to avoid plagiarizing his model: if we find similarity between the couple embodied by Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley and that of Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis in the feature film by Cronenberg, is note that the reports are reversed. In Natali, the man seems to fade away quietly when the woman shows a determination to carry out the project, whereas in Crononberg is the scientist Seth Brundle (Goldblum) who ignores the warnings of journalist Veronica Quaife (Davis).

Therefore, we find that the two metra management narrate a modernized variation FRANKENSTEIN Mary Shelley’s researchers carried away by their quest for knowledge, braving all dangers to achieve their goal. However, we also note that they cultivate their uniqueness in relation to the story of Shelley: FLY is primarily a story about transformation, SPLICE, it evokes a more frontal procreation.

Indeed, the history of these two scientists manipulate DNA enriched by reflection on the birth which differs from that of scholars Brundle and Frankenstein: being based on experience does not become a source of release but instead, exerts a pull, awakens empathy, ie similar sentiments to those inspired by a new-born sickly. There, where Cronenberg seems to sound the alarm by demonstrating the dangers of science, Natali has a more nuanced discourse emphasizing instead of this being worldwide.

On this point, one could perceive the influence of Guillermo Del Toro, the director of Hellboy, The Devil’s Backbone in and LABYRINTH OF PAN by executive producer. At first it may seem strange to attend a treatment that humanizes the creature early on, he did wear a human face emerges and is initiated by human activities such as dance. Difficult not to see there traces of the director of Hellboy and Blade 2: the creature / daughter is learning to life. Learning that two people eponymous feature films cited above have been followed. A similarity all the more glaring, since these two beings in their own fictional heroes are also sources of attraction and repulsion: Hellboy is affiliated with the Devil, Blade the Vampire Slayer.

Finally, we note the control Natali on such a project. Now with more substantial means, his staging is gaining fluency and seems more refined: efforts are noticeable in the movements of the camera and work on photography, which is most successful. At the time of CUBE, its meager budget gave his film an air of amateur film: the actors sometimes lacked accuracy, the use of handheld camera was not the best choice. Now he can afford more elegant tracking shots and actors more renowned.

In sum, despite the subject somewhat overused (yet another story of mad scientist), SPLICE managed to hold its own in the game, therefore, while the story may well be sewn with white thread, we are surprised to cling to characters. It is led by nose by a film ultimately surprising. Vincenzo Natali demonstrates with this latest release it is now part of the directors with whom he will have to reckon.
